“How Markets Work” and “Economics and the Pursuit of Happiness” are the first two of six planned online courses exploring the dimensions of freedom from ancient philosophy through contemporary economic and political thought. Taking its inspiration from Oxford University’s famous Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute’s (ISI) PPE is unique in being a comprehensive, integrated, serious, and yet accessible way for any student to obtain an education in freedom.
Are you interested in securing transferable college credit? ISI enjoys a partnership with The King’s College to make these courses available for affordable and transferable college credit. ISI also will offer badges and certification depending on individual levels of course completions.
Who can take ISI PPE courses? High School dual enrollment (or dual credit) students, community college transfer students, on-campus students looking for affordable, flexible, and intellectually interesting courses are ideal candidates for ISI PPE courses. Individual students or college clubs seeking opportunities to improve their economic and civic literacy will certainly benefit from this unique approach to freedom education.
ISI PPE courses feature scholars with a passion for education and liberty. They promise students an exciting intellectual journey, one very few colleges in our time are able–or willing–to provide. Each of the six PPE courses engages important thinkers, key institutions, influential concepts, and great books. They are broken into five main parts for ease of learning and they offer a wide range of supplementary resources for those who want to go beyond the relatively brief preliminary assignments.
As mentioned, students can engage the ISI PPE through either an open enrollment (DIY) track or a for-credit track. ISI PPE students will also be eligible to attend dozens of ISI conference events. As part of this program, they can go beyond their online studies to learn more about liberty at the direction of ISI’s top faculty mentors and alongside fellow students’ interested in freedom and “the pursuit of happiness.”
The first online ISI PPE course is “How Markets Work” featuring Dr. Tawni Ferrarini of Lindenwood University and Dr. Daniel Hammond of Wake Forest University.
The second ISI PPE economics course is “Economics and the Pursuit of Happiness.” It features Dr. Jay Richards of The Catholic University of America and Dr. Anne Rathbone Bradley of George Mason University and The Fund for American Studies.
Courses coming next: “The Roots of American Constitutionalism” & “American Constitutionalism and Its Critics”
